SHOPBOT

This is the Shop automation robot which was developed by the Robotics Interest Group(RIG-NITC). This robot uses features like GSM communication, Image processing, Barcode scanning etc. It uses suction cups driven by vacuum generators to grab the item. The robot is a model depicting a possible shop automation system.

Subsystems Involved:

SIM900 GSM/GPRS modem: A dedicated GSM modem was used to enable GSM communication,  i.e. to interact directly with the user. Data transfer with Arduino mega is done via serial communication.

Quick Scan QS2500 barcode scanner: Barcode scanning is used to uniquely identify the product from the stack. It is interfaced with development board using PS2 communication.

Image Processing: Image processing with opencv enables the robot to identify correct stack as per the product information received.

Pneumatic suction Gripper: Gripping the product and taking it out of the stack is performed with the help of pistons and suction grippers.

Future aspects :

The Shopbot can further be modified to incorporate vertical scanning of stack, implement online SMS messages, include shop’s product database (DBMS), implement automated packaging and delivery, etc.
